In the past one century, Maersk dominated global shipbuilding. During peak period the revenue of Maersk occupied over 50% of Denmark's gross industrial value. Maersk was regarded as the symbol and honor of Denmark.
However, Maersk came across loss for the first time during global financial crisis. In 2009 the business of Maersk was also hit in China, including shipping, logistics and port.
As a result, Maersk started to carry out reform. The information center of China was moved from Shenzhen to Chengdu, for lower cost and higher efficiency. The featured service to customers was rolled out as well.
"Do not waste any crisis!" said Chairman Yan Ci (Chinese name) of Maersk China. In his view, the crisis meant an opportunity of reform. "Crisis keeps us stronger" said he.
Yan Ci was born in Denmark. Having studied in Denmark and America, he spent 10 years in Maersk China. He showed definite pride and confidence while talking about his company.
He said the business of Maersk was closely related with trade growth. Without doubt, Maersk was severely hit during crisis including cargo volume and freight. In 2010, as economy recovered, everything was getting better.
In the first three quarters, the net profit of Maersk reached $4.2bn. The revenue was increased by 17% at $41.4bn, amazing and excellent.
