    Container throughput of the port of Hong Kong (China) in January-November 2010 rose by 12.7% over the same period last year to 21,57 million TEUs, the Port Authority statistics said. In the 11-month period container shipments at the largest container terminal Kwai Tsing grew by 13.2% to 15,64 million TEUs.

     

    In November, the volume of containers handled at the port of Hong Kong rose 10.5% compared with November 2009 to 2m TEUs.

     

    Port of Hong Kong is one of the largest ports in the world. Hong Kong port's container trade fell in 2009 by 14.6% year-over-year to 20,9 million TEUs. The port is able to handle 456,000 ships a year.

     

    Figures from the Hong Kong Marine Department show the port handled 2 million TEU in November, an increase of 10 per cent over the 1.9 million TEU in November of last year.

    Singapore's Maritime and Port Authority reported a 3.8 per cent increase in container movement in November, having handled 2.4 million TEU compared to 2.3 million TEU in November of last year.
