Spotted: there was oil contamination in Haicang and Baicheng sea area.
Yesterday afternoon, the reporter came to Mr. Liao’s aquaculture farm which is located near by the dork in Haicang Aoguan Village. As Mr. Liao said, he smelled some strange from the sea the night before yesterday, but then he didn't take it seriously. Yesterday midnight, he pumped water from the sea as usual, suddenly he found that it filled with oil contamination. It turned out that it was caused by the collision of two boats that led to oil leaking.
As the reporter arrived at the dork, he saw that a large part of the white pipe previously used to pump water had been blackened by the oil contamination. The dock embankment was divided into two parts obviously during the ebb, the above part presented the normal color, while the under one black.
In the shoreside, the reefs and sands were covered by the oil contamination as well, and some piling up in one step was thick. It was visual that more than 100 meters coastline was affected by the oil contaminatuon.
Plus, the oil contamination also was found in Baicheng sea area. Yesterday noontime, Mr. Ding touring in Baicheng found that there was oil contamination floating in the sea surface. And some tourists playing in the beach also found that their shoes were covered by the oil contamination.
Reason:
The collision of two ships led to the leaking oil flowing into the sea.
Yesterday, the reporter got the information from Xiamen Offshore Search and Rescue Center: at 13:49, Nov. 27, the collision between a tugboat named Xiamen Tug3 and a sluge disposal barge named Qianhe12 occurred near by the Haitian No.10 berth, Xiemen Port. This accident caused damage in portside tank No.2 of the barge, which led to around 5 tons sludge with oil flowing into the sea, and it polluted some parts of Xiamen sea area with the effect of the waves. Fortunately, the two boats were safe and no one got hurt.
Xiamen MSA will continue to organize all the cleaning powers and offshore emvironmental protection volunteers to clean up the oil contamination, and they also carry out the investigation with regard to this accident.
