Time: June 11th, 2012
Sketch of the accident:
At 17:50, June 11th 2012, we received the notification from the agent that an oil spill accident happened to their ship. After that we sent out one oil spill disposal ship and two anti-fouling cockboats together with some antifouling materials. At the same time the command personnel headed to the site by car.
At about 18:20 our personnel and ships arrived at the berth of the ship and they started to take control of the polluted sea area and recovered the oil. At the same time, we got in touch with the captain and the crew on duty of the ship and learned that the accident happened at around 17:40. The sludge tank of the ship spilled because of uncertain cause and about 50 liters of sludge leaked from the ventilation hole of the tank to the deck and finally drifted into the sea. About 150 square meters of sea area was polluted. The ship had already taken emergency action to stop the leak.
During the next one hour, our ship successfully cleared away a great amount of oil contamination that had drifted far away with the help of oil suction booms and stopped its diffusion. We also used the oil suction felt to clean the contamination that remained near the ship and the dock. After making sure no potential risk of oil spill existed, our staff and ships cleaned up the site and then left. During the whole process, our fast and professional action prevented the situation from going worse and protected the sea environment as well as defended the interest of the ship. It was highly praised by both the ship and the agent.
